2024/12/02: The bolometric way to the discovery of neutrinoless double beta decay: CROSS, CUPID and beyond

2 December 2024

by Andrea Giuliani (CSNSM - CNRS/IN2P3) will be held on Monday 02 december in LLR’s conference room at 2:00pm.

This seminar will start with a concise overview of neutrinoless double beta decay, highlighting its relevance in neutrino physics and its broader implications for particle physics. As the only viable experimental approach to confirm the Majorana nature of neutrinos and conduct an inclusive test of lepton number conservation, this rare process holds paramount importance in the field. The presentation will illustrate the bolometric technique employed to study this phenomenon, providing a detailed description and analysis of its application. Particular attention will be given to the technologies adopted by the CROSS and CUPID experiments, along with closely related developments in the bolometric domain. The discussion will culminate in an in-depth exploration of the CUPID experiment’s prospects, demonstrating why this project stands out as one of the most promising initiatives of the next generation, with significant discovery potential.
