Getting Connected
Just visiting? If you are visiting SLAC for a conference, meeting, etc. and are not planning on using GLAST's Science Analysis Software, please ignore this section of the workbook and refer to: Computing Resources for Short Term Visitors.
SLAC Accounts
IMPORTANT: If you already have a SLAC account, make sure that you also have access to the CVS Repository and - if you plan to use SLAC's Public Installation - write access to the NFS User Space.
In order to begin using SLAC computing resources for an extended period, you will need to:
- Go to the SLAC Users Organization's (SLUO's) website and fill out the SLAC User Information Form.
Note: This must be submitted before a SLAC account request can be processed.
- Apply for a computer account for each platform that you'll be using as follows:
- Go to SLAC Guidelines for Computer Account Requests.
- Print, read, and sign the Declaration form.
- Print and fill out the SLAC Computer Account Form.
- Fax all forms to: (650) 926-8616 or (650) 926-2923
- Send an e-mail to karen@slac.stanford.edu; richard@slac.stanford.edu and alert them that the forms have been faxed.
Note: If you have not had a response within one week, please e-mail them again in order to determine the status of your application. When complete, applications are normally processed within twenty-four hours.
Intra-collaboration Communication Tools
Note: VRVS is used as the primary communication tool for many GLAST meetings, including: Analysis and Software Meetings.
Troubleshooting Tip - VRVS: If you are in an outlying area and experience problems with VRVS connectivity during a session, see Attaching a Different VRVS Reflector.
Mailing Lists
There are a number of different GLAST mailing lists. To get an account on the glast.stanford.edu machine which hosts the mailing lists, first contact Guilli Johannesson and ask him to set up an account for you. You will receive an e-mail with your user id, password, and some useful links.
Lists to Join. At a minimum you will probably want to join the following mailing lists:
