Glast Software Installer: Users Guide
Procedure
- Directory structure. It is recommended that you create a special work directory named glast on your C: drive, and then created the following subdirectories:
Subdirectory |
Contains |
|
Source code top-level packages downloaded via CVS from the GLAST Offline CVS repository.
Note: Packages can obtained using the installer or from a source tarball. |
|
Contains task-specific subpackages (e.g., astro, burstFit, catalogAccess, etc.) that can be obtained from a top-level package. |
|
Tools such as GoGui, RMViewer, Wired, etc. |
|
External libraries (ape, cfitsio, CLHEP, etc.) |
Note: By default, the installer will look for c:/glast/packages and c:/glast/extlib on your C: drive.
- Download the Glast Software Installer.
Note: If you are launching the installer on SLAC Central Linux, use the command:
The following GUI should appear on your desktop:
- Click on the Next button. The "Select package and version" GUI will be displayed.
Note: In the example shown below, the Developer release type has been selected, which will install both the source code and the binaries. Refer to Release Tools: Overview for additional information on package
selections. |
 |
Note:
To see releases for all platforms, click on the Advanced... button and
deselect ' Show releases for this platform only'. |
 |
- Click on the Next > button; the Install directory GUI will be displayed:
 |
Notes:
- The installer will check the contents of your extlib directory to determine which additional libraries you will need for the packages you are installing.
- Environment Variables. Be sure that your GLAST_EXT and INST_DIR environment variables point to the directories you designate..
|
- Click on the Next > button; the Package List GUI will be displayed:
- When you click on the External Files tab, the following pane will be displayed:
|
Follow the directions on the GUI to select the package(s) you wish to install.
Note: If you are working at SLAC on a Linux machine and want
to use SLAC Public's external libraries instead of downloading them, you can do so by setting up your .cshrc file. (In which case, you should click on the 'Clear All' button to deselect all of the external libraries.)
If you are working offsite, you should download the external libraries to your local machine. |
- Click on the
button to complete the installation.

Note: Once the install is complete, you will have a number of directories installed in your instDir directory. One of those directories is called "bin". This directory contains the scripts used to run any of the applications available within your new binary distribution.
For example, if you checked out GlastRelease and wish to run Gleam, you would:
/fullPath/to/GlastInstall/bin/Gleam
where an optional input parameter would be a jobOptions file; otherwise, a default jobOptions file will be used. |
