skyPointed-3hr Dataset

The original plan called for two of these runs (one with interleave and one without) as a check on each other. However, it was discovered that interleave was not working in pointed mode. Therefore, the focus was placed on making the full simulation run be multi-featured:

  • Pointed in the region of vela.
  • A GRB in the FoV.
  • Level 0 files produced.
  • Heavy Ion (GCRcalib) files produced.

In addition to providing the first look at realistic science data for the Level 1 pipeline and ASP, this downlink simulation will allow us to benchmark and optimize the throughput in processing a downlink to compare to our canonical hour.

Prior to publishing this dataset, the Flight Software team fed the L0 files into the Front End Simulator in order to test the GRB filter. Nicola also fed the GRB through the offline version of the filter and generated a burst alert.

The plot on the left shows how the GRB stands out in the sky, while the one on the right shows the time structure of the photon arrival. Note that a bright burst was employed to give the GRB filter an easy one to start with.

The table on the right shows the simulated burst alert for this event.
