Getting a SLAC Account

In order to begin using SLAC computing resources for an extended period, you will need to:

  1. Go to the SLAC Users Organization's (SLUO's) website and fill out the SLAC User Information Form.

Note: This must be submitted before a SLAC account request can be processed.

  1. Apply for a computer account for each platform that you'll be using as follows:
  2. Go to SLAC Guidelines for Computer Account Requests.
  3. Print, read, and sign the Declaration form.
  4. Print and fill out the SLAC Computer Account Form.
  5. Fax all forms to: (650) 926-8616 or (650) 926-2923
  6. Send an e-mail to karen@slac.stanford.edu; richard@slac.stanford.edu and alert them that the forms have been faxed.

Note: If you have not had a response within one week, please e-mail them again in order to determine the status of your application. When complete, applications are normally processed within twenty-four hours.

IMPORTANT: If you already have a SLAC account, make sure that you also have:

  • Access to the CVS Repository
  • Write access to the nfs user space (required only if you plan to use SLAC's Public Installation)

Note: If you cannot write to your user nfs space, there is a permissions problem; contact your NFS Permissions Czar.

  1. Once you have a SLAC account, you must change your password within 24 hours. (See Logging In.)
